Growing Scallions from Kitchen Scraps
Scallions are the easiest thing to grow from kitchen scraps. Specially during covid, I preferred to stay indoors and limit my grocery shopping. While experimenting with re-growing different greens from kitchen scraps, I was successful with cabbage, bok choy and scallions. New posts coming up for these!
After cooking my delicious scallion and tomato curry, there were many scallion scraps. I always stick them in a container of water, and change the water regularly. However, I decided to follow the progress of scallions growing, so you can see how easy it is! Hoping this will inspire you to re grow your veggies
Steps to grow scallions in a container:
1) Cut scallions 2-3 inches from the bottom
2) Put into a container, and pour enough water to cover the roots
3) Leave on a window sill and change the water regularly
4) Don’t forget to change the water! It will get really stinky. You have been warned!
5) Use scissors to cut off scallions and use in your cooking
6) Keep growing in a container of water or plant in soil
